Secret of His health
The Secret of His health and his Food Intake
Even at 110 years of age, people say that although he has shed tears for the world, his eyes remain unaffected — bright and sharp in vision. He meticulously maintains his routine and attends programs on schedule.
His diet was very scientific. He disliked sour or spicy foods, hot chilli powder, and fried items. His staple meal was two idlis with a curry made from green gram dal and a pinch of salt. This remained his wholesome choice for most meals, accompanied by coconut chutney without chilli and saindhava lavana (Himalayan rock salt) for breakfast. He consumed half a cup of milk, avoided fatty foods, but was fond of ghee. In the afternoon, he had ragi mudde with a curry of green gram or thur dal, along with a glass of buttermilk. At night, he ate one or two rotis, or uppittu without onions and chillies. He considered food as sacred prasad, meant only to sustain the body, and advocated that one should eat to live, not live to eat. He never suffered from indigestion in his lifetime.
He walked without support, agile and brisk in his steps. One is struck, at first sight, by Sree Swamiji’s graceful humility and the blissful simplicity of his life. Incessant and hard work defined his divine routine. He climbed floors without the slightest tiredness in body or legs. His hearing remained sharp, he spoke in a low tone, and people were accustomed to his exceedingly poised gestures. His face was highly photogenic — no surprise that people called him the “walking God.”
